Ignition Poker is the obvious choice if you live in America (or Australia) and want to play poker online for real money. It’s the busiest room you can play at, has a diverse player pool, and is run by what I believe to be the most reliable company in online gambling (despite not actually having a gambling license).

What’s the company like?

Ignition Casino as a brand is relatively new having been around since 2016, but the people behind it have been around since the early days of online poker.

It all started as Bodog in 2004, which later became Bovada in 2011, and since 2016 we have Ignition. All sites are still online, but Ignition is their US-facing operation.

The company behind these sites has a strong track-record of looking after players, and they are one of the shining examples of how to run an online gambling company with integrity. This is why I'm happy to recommend them when anyone living in the US asks me where's best to play poker online.

What’s the software like?

It’s solid and polished. It does everything you need to play poker online without distraction.

Their web browser poker room is (and always has been) sleek. You have the option of a Desktop client, but I get the impression that the browser is the focus of their development, and the downloadable program is more or less a port for those who prefer a standalone client.

The design is minimal, which I personally prefer, as it allows you to focus on the hand. But I understand this “stainless steel” approach to design isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

The worst decision about the software for me is that “rabbit card” is on by default, which shows you what the next card would have been if you fold before the river. This seems cool at first, but it teaches you bad habits about how to think about the game. It doesn’t matter what “would have happened”, as this is redundant information and will only make you second-guess yourself.

What’s this I hear about anonymous tables?

Ah yes, Ignition Poker has anonymous tables; you don’t know who your opponents are and they don’t know who you are.

I prefer it.

This prevents anyone from using a HUD, so you just have to the learn the players at the table. This helps to create a “pure” form of poker without the distraction of stats, and you can just play poker as it should be played.

It’s obviously sad to not have the ability to hunt down players by their username, but the reward of winning money by actually figuring out your opponent is worth it. It’s a double-edged sword for some, but if you’re good at poker, you’ll be fine.

What’s the mobile poker room like?

It works.

The mobile poker room is browser based (not an app), but it works surprisingly well. I work better with the concentration that comes from sitting at a Desktop/Laptop. But if you’re looking for a quick game on the side, the mobile poker room is a viable option.

Just remember, winning players focus when they play.

What are the players like?

Ignition is an online casino that also offers a poker room, so you always have a steady flow of general gamblers trying their hand at poker.

This is good news.

Dedicated poker rooms like Americas Cardroom attract players who are focused on playing poker only, but with Ignition Casino you have the luxury of sitting down with people who just like to gamble.

This stream of casino gamblers is why poker players keep an account at Ignition. Just don’t venture in to the casino yourself.

What are the deposit/withdrawal options like?

Ignition Casino offers the popular options of Credit Card or Bitcoin, and has a strong track record for paying out in a timely fashion. In my book Ignition is the most reliable for deposits and withdrawals in the industry.

What about Bitcoin?

Ignition Casino was one of the earliest adopters for using Bitcoin as a deposit/withdrawal method.

If you haven’t done so yet, you should strongly consider using Bitcoin for depositing and withdrawing from your poker accounts. It’s much easier to move around, and does away with the restrictions and processing times involved with Credit Cards.

Ignition Casino was launched in August of 2016 and is home to the very popular Ignition Poker room. While many poker sites posted reviews when the site was first launched it’s taken me a few months to write this review as I wanted to ensure the site was safe for players before recommending it. After extensively researching and reading players experiences on forums like 2+2 and Cardschat, I feel like I’m now able to provide a comprehensive review of the site.

Here’s the background on this poker room. In 2016, Bovada decided to stop offering poker to US players. In doing so, they made an agreement for players to transfer their accounts, by September 30^th, to a new online poker room at Ignition Casino. So all poker players that previously held account at Bovada now play at Ignition making it the biggest online poker room for US players, according to Poker Scout.

Is Ignition Casino Trustworthy? I believe they are one of the most trustworthy and safe online poker rooms available for US players today. Here’s why:

They are backed by a group that has been operating casinos and poker rooms for well over 20 years.
There have been ZERO reports of players not receiving payouts.
They have a great reputation among both regular and casual poker players.
It is the largest poker site for players in the US to play online.

I wanted to get that out of the way to give you the backstory on this poker room as it seemingly popped up over night. When this poker site was first announced it caught people in the poker community by surprise. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if there are still some players who have tried to log into Bovada Poker since it has been shut down, not knowing Ignition has taken over.

Now on to my review…

Deposits & Payouts – The most basic and critical function of any online poker rooms is the ability for players to add money to an account as well as withdrawing any winnings. Forget about the software and customer service for a minute. If a poker room can’t do these basic functions it’s not worth playing at. Thankfully Ignition Casino gets flying colors in this department. Deposits from credit cards and the increasingly popular bitcoin are the most common ways player get funds on the platform to play with.

Getting money on Ignition couldn’t be easier and more pain free. I have yet to encounter a player that has had any issue with funding their player account. On the opposite end, getting money out of your account and into you bank account couldn’t be easier. I’d highly recommend using bitcoins as It’s the easiest and quickest payout option with the site.

Rake – This is an area that Ignition is also very competitive in. With a rake of $.01 for every $.20 in the pot, the site is very competitive, and even offers a lower rake than some of their competitors like BetOnline. Usually we see the biggest poker rooms take advantage of their size and maximize rake but this is not the case with Ignition. Even though they are the largest online poker room for US players, they have remained very competitive in this area.

Player Traffic –It goes without saying that the #3 poker site in the world has enough players to be able to get in on a cash game quickly, or a sit n go without waiting too long. The best part is that this room has a very large percentage of its players from the US, so peak playing times have lots of games going and tournaments scheduled.

Poker Bonuses & VIP Rewards – Now on to the juicy stuff. How well does ignition treat is players?

It’s extremely costly to create and takes a lot of time and resources to work out the glitches and make it run smooth. So how good can the software of a brand new poker room actually be? Well as you might have guessed, Ignition Casino is not using software they just created. They are using the old, and very reliable, software from Bovada. This software is proven, and has been used by thousands and thousands of players to power the number one most trafficked US facing poker room.

What sets their software apart from the rest is the use of anonymous tables. Bodog/Bovada pioneered this concept and has proven to be great for players who are playing recreation-ally. What this has done for causal players is to remove tracking options for experienced players to exploit those relatively new to the game.
